Evaluation

This is my evaluation for my media products- my front cover, contents page and double page spread.

Double Page Number Two.

After my first double page spread received such negative feedback, I decided to rethink my whole double page spread idea, and I decided to go for a bigger, bolder picture as this is what my readers wanted to see, I also, after changing my image on the cover, took some more pictures as my previous pictures seemed a little pixelated.

Feedback-
Rachel- I like how the text is written on the blue and also how the main focus of the page is the photo. I like the top left hand corner of how the neon colours tie in with the outfits of the people in the image. I love it.
Alex- I love how it is mainly an image for your front cover, and how it gives the magazine a 'summer' feel, this is also reflected in your colour scheme. I like how you have incorporated the colour scheme of the rest of the magazine in just the left hand corner, it acts like a subtle trademark. I think its really clever.
Amy- I love the image used, it reminds me of holidays and summer! It looks very professional and is of high quality, it doesn't seem to have pixelated. I like the amount of text used too, there doesn't seem to be too much or too little and I love how it is part of the picture but doesn't distract away from the image. However, it could do with page numbers so that it links to the contents page, but that's all.
Kate- It looks very well thought out, the colours of the image seem to reflect them used in your magazine, yet not so much that it is overwhelming. The image is bright and fun and looks like a photo shoot, which is a good thing! The image isn't pixelated and the text colour and font really match the feel of the magazine and image, it could however, have page numbers to make it look a little more professional.
Sarah- I love how the image and the genre of your magazine seem to match, I love the colour scheme and the font. Also, I love how it looks like a poster and yet it is a double page spread. I like the simplicity of it yet, how effective it is. I love how the band name is the same of that on the front cover, to show uniformity throughout your magazine.
Me- I feel that this double page spread is a vast improvement than my intial double page spread and I will add page numbers as that is a critisism that my target readers seem to pick up on.

Front Cover Number Three

After altering my colour scheme on my contents page, I needed to incorporate it into my front cover, and therefore I decided that I needed to make a few changes in order for it to look more professional. I used the feedback from my last front cover, and added or removed certain aspects of my front cover, I have also decided to change the image on the front cover as I feel that the image was a little pixelated.

Feedback-

Rachel- I really like the new front cover, I think that it represents your magazine better than your other front covers. I also love the orange on the cover and it makes the magazine look like a summer edition- which is great!

Alex- A really well constructed and pretty piece of work! I like the detail and the colour scheme quite a lot. The font goes well with the theme as does the squiggly pattern in the corner - really well done!

Kate- I really like the front cover that you have produced. The new picture works really effectively and draws the readers eye to the cover instantly. The fonts and effects work really well to attract the specific genre and your target reader. The only thing I think of to improve is to add a price and issue number to the front cover to allow it to look more professional. Other than that I love it.

Amy- I think that it has very much improved, really good. I like the colour scheme and it stands out to the reader, to improve, just add the price.

Sarah- I love the image used, the magazine looks fresh and summery and i thin that will have a positive effect on the reader, this is also supported by the colour scheme. Your images, font, music genre and colour scheme all work together nicely for a very good result! I love it!

Me- This is my favourite front cover so far, it looks much more full and vibrant compared to the others. I think incorporating the orange was a good idea and the new image looks much more fun and lively. If I feel that I can improve my front cover further, I will make changes as I continue further work on my products.

Double Page Spread Number One

From my research, I have constructed a double page spread which hopefully get my target audiences approval. I have incorporated the colour scheme from the front cover and contents page to allow my products to appear linked. I have used an image of the band that links to the front cover and hopefully it looks interesting and young.

Feedback-

Rachel- I like the colour scheme and the font, however I feel that it is very plain and could do with a bigger main feature picture, also, the image looks a little plain. There is too many white spaces for my liking.

Alex- I like how the contents, front page and double page spread all reflect each other, however, I feel that this looks really cheap and unprofessional and definately needs either, more text, a bigger picture, or more pictures to hide those white spaces!

Amy- I like how the image on the front cover and double page spread are linked, I like how you have kept the same style and colour throughout, however, I feel that this magazine double page spread looks very cheap, plain and unprofessional, I think with further development though, it could look really good, your idea just needs to be reconsidered.

Kate- I like the way that the image used on your front cover and the image on your double page spread look similar but different, it shows that the magazine is uniform, however I dont like the double page spread in general. It looks very empty and plain. Use bigger images and think more carefully about the layout!

Sarah- I like the squiggly patterns in the corner, they look like those used on previous products, however, it seems that the image used is pixelated and too small, also the layout doesnt seem to flatter the amount of text to image ratio- it looks very amateur!

Me- I completely agree with the feedback I have recieved, I dont personally like my douible page spread, and if I brought a magazine which contained this double page spread, I would be very dissappointed as it looks unprofessional and boring.

I will make another double page spread, which will hopefully satisfy my target audience much more than this one, I will take into consideration the layout, images, colour scheme and font.

Contents Page Number Two

I used the feedback from my last idea to construct a second contents page. I have added headings to break my contents page down and allow the reader to navigate around my magazine easier. I have placed bigger, bolder images with page number to allow an insight into the article. I have changed the layout of the magazine so that the articles are more readable and hopefully my contents page looks more professional. During making necessary changes, I decided to experiment with different images to see whether they were more appealing to my target audience.

Feedback-

Rachel- I like the photos especially and i really like the colours as I believe that they are fresh and young and vibrant. My only criticism would be that I find the font a little small.

Alex- The photos are really befitting to the theme of the magazine and the colours are really vibrant and work really well. One criticism would be the font size.

Amy- i really like the colours used on the contents page as its bright and bold which links great with your chosen music genre if you were to change anything or improve would be to maybe change the font used on the contents page as its small and maybe use a different colour . Overall its really great.

Kate- I love the colours and layout of the contents page, as a whole it looks aesthetically pleasing and will draw the eye of the reader instantly. The variation of the photos is really good, and shows a variation within the magazine. The only improvement I can see is maybe try and include an advert such as a competition or subscription advert. Other than that I love it.

Sarah- I love your contents! The colours are great and eye catching and I like how you have used headings to separate all of your articles. I like how you have put the page numbers by the images and how you have followed the font you have used on the front cover, I think that the font is clear, I would however make it larger so that it is easier to read. :) Love it !

I will take into account the feedback and produce a contents page which, hopefully, fulfills what my target audiences wishes to see.

Contents Page Number One

From my research and feedback I have produced a contents page which will hopefully reflect my front cover and also the theme of my music that I am promoting. I will receive feedback from my target audience to help me improve my product further.

Feedback:

Rachel- I like the green and pink colour scheme because it looks funky and young and i love the pictures at the bottom because it gives the impression of a dance floor relating to the magazine. I think that the contents page needs more text on it though because it doesn't have that many articles in it at the moment.

Alex- The colour scheme works well together and fits in with the theme of your magazine. I like the wide range of fonts that are different, yet similar in style as this creates a variety. However, I think the pictures could be more appropriate and the whole cover is slightly too sparse. Good work though!

Amy- I really like the contents page its bold and bright which links great with your music genre however, I think there should more effects or something more the fill the space in the background but overall great!!!!!!

Kate- I love the contents, the bright vibrant colours draw the reader into the contents and allows a link from the front cover to the contents page. However I do think that there aren't enough articles stated on the contents page, I also think that they should be put more categories. Other than that it's brilliant :)

Sarah- I like how the images are placed at the bottom of the page and they are edited well. You have continued the colours linking the pages together. I like how the page is set out, however I would say that the font is too large so that there are not many articles. Over all I think i think that its great and has a fun loving impact on the reader.

From my feedback I will create a second contents page and make any necessary changes.

Front Cover Number Two.

I used the feedback from my last idea to construct a second front cover. I have removed the second image to ensure full attention on the main article and also changed the layout. During making necessary changes, I decided to experiment with different images to see whether they were more appealing to my target audience.

Feedback-

Rachel- It looks busy, fun and youthful. The empty background has been filled with colour and text and looks a lot more professional than the previous front covers. The size of the text could be put into proportion though; the title of the magazine isn't the main attraction.

Alex- I prefer this image to the last one for the front cover, it looks a great deal more professional. However, the font looks a bit big and not balanced with the rest of the page.

Amy- I really like it as its eye catching brightly coloured and you can instantly tell what genre of music it is. Maybe more colour in the background.

Kate- The front cover is eye catching and instantly appeals to the target market due to the bright colours and text used. It is aesthetically pleasing and original. However I do believe that there may be too many articles on the front cover, therefore to improve I think that one article should be removed allowing the other articles to be bigger in font, I also think that the competition should have some sort of shape behind it too allow it to stand out and look different.

Sarah- The colours used are fun and vibrant and link to the music genre. The picture of band is great and shows their unity. The fonts are easy to read and the subheadings give a good insight to the magazine. I would say that maybe you could fill the background in somehow instead of a plain background. However, overall the cover is great and eyecatching.

I will take into account the feedback and produce another front cover, hopefully fulfilling what my target audiences wishes to see.

Front Cover Number One.

From my research and feedback I have produced a front cover which will hopefully attract my target audience and reflect the theme of my music that I am promoting. I will receive feedback from my target audience to help me improve my product further.

Feedback:

Rachel- I like the idea of this magazine. It looks fun and energetic and not too busy. However, the use of the second image is confusing and personally, I think it would look better without it. Also, the background still looks a little plain.

Alex- I really like the images used, the colour scheme and the splatters on the page, it makes the magazine look cool and interesting. However, I think the layout could be better.

Amy- This magazine is bright and youthful, which will attract a wde audience, however, the second image draws the attraction away from the main article and so could maybe be removed.

Kate- This magazine still looks a little empty for my liking, however I love how vibrant it looks. Its definately eye-catching!

Sarah- I like the splatters on the page, it looks proffesional and interesting. I dont see the relevance of the second, smaller picture and just think its distracting. The headings, fonts and colours look good though.

From my feedback, I will produce a second front cover and make any neccessary changes.

Using Existing Images

I used existing pictures of bands to create a mock up of my magazine. By creating a mock up
using existing images, I am able to have an insight to what my magazine will look like and find out what kind of images will compliment the rest of my chosen colour scheme and font.

I will create a number of mock ups and evaluate them to evaluate the types of images I should be using.

Mock ups.

Feedback:

Rachel- I really like the colour scheme, it looks really lively and fun, I also really like the fonts used. The layout could be better though as it looks a bit empty and cheap! However, I like the style of the photos used and is yours reflect the ones that have been taken then your magazine should look great once finished!

Alex- It looks really bright and young, which I like! But there is a lot of white spaces so it looks quite amateur. I do feel though, that the colour scheme is a little female orientated, maybe a bright colour to attract males would help this magazine to attract a wider audience.

Amy- I like the fonts, they really suit the genre of music that is being promoted. The colours are also good as the pink and green balance each other out well and can therefore appeal to males and females. But it does look a bit empty!

Kate- Although I like it, the background makes the magazine seem a bit less proffesional, but, overall, the magazine looks quirky and fun. I especially like the masthead, to allow your magazine to look more professional then maybe you should consider adding a banner of some sort to the bottom of the magazine to allow the reader a preview of whats inside the magazine.

Sarah- I like the overall look, however I feel that the pictures could do with enlarging and maybe filling the page. Also, the background looks a bit cheap, but apart from that it looks nice. The green and pink look really lively and young, which is a good thing, although vibrant, the dark font colour has toned the magazine down, which looks really good, however try not to allow the magazine to be over-feminine.

Jack- The green and pink contrast really well, and the grey instead of black makes the magazine look more sophisticated and thought out. I like the look of this, however I think this magazine will appeal mainly to girls. The images used reflect the genre of magazine and so, if mirrored, will make your magazine look more professional. There is a lot of empty spaces though, so try to avoid that and maybe think about something to distract away from the blank background.

Me- I completely agree with all of my feedback, my mock up magazine do look a little cheap and so I would benefit by adding things to the background. However, I believe that once my text is added that my magazine will look instantly more full anyway, and so I will re-review adding things to the background once my own images and text has been added.

I will now place my own images in place to replace the existing images, I will also take into account my feedback and hopefully I will change my magazine accordingly.

Image Research

I will be including photos of bands in my magazine, so I will need to research bands of that particular genre so that I can analyse them and copy their style.

Band: Hadouken!

Band: The Prodigy

Band: Pendulum

Band: Panic! At The Disco

After researching Electro bands, it seems that the most favoured pose is stood in a line, next to each other. I will reflect this style in my own pictures to ensure that my work looks as professional as it can.
